And maybe there are a few folks out there who are going to have their tender feelings hurt when I break this news to them…..
The reality is, Hansen Pole Buildings are not right for every client. If the lowest price is driving your decision over performance, then we are probably not right for you.
Please take a moment and reread the last sentence. Don’t worry, I will wait for you.
There are three parts to any purchasing transaction – quality, service and price. No matter how you turn it, you are only going to get (at best) two of the three.
In my experience, I have found there is always a supplier who is willing to sacrifice quality and/or service, to sell at a lower price. It is impossible for a business to stay in business offering the best quality, the best service and the lowest price.
There are some products which are commodities – say new vehicles as an example. If you are looking for a new ride to drive, once you have made a decision to invest in a certain vehicle, with a given set of features – it is going to be the same car, truck or motorcycle no matter what dealer it is purchased from. In this case, price can be the driver. After all, the car, is the car, is the car.
I’ve used this successfully myself. Here is an example:
Back in 1986, I decided I wanted to own a new Yamaha XVZ13DS Venture Royale motorcycle. The earlier model 1200cc Venture was very well received, but still struggling in the marketplace against the Goldwing. For 1986, Yamaha made some changes. Capacity was increased to 1300cc for more power, luggage capacity was increased by 50%, it was fitted with electronically controlled anti-dive forks, and passenger accommodations were enhanced. Despite all the engine improvements and extra power, the new Royale could still pull 45mpg. It was a great motorcycle.
I don’t recall what the original suggested retail price was, however the NADA guides tag a value (30 years later) of one in excellent condition at $7835. Knowing exactly what I wanted, I shopped around and bought it brand new for $6800 (granted I had to go from Salem, Oregon to Ashland to pick it up).
If post frame (pole) buildings were a commodity – where every feature was exactly the same from every vendor, we would not need to have Building Designers who assist you with trying to avoid costly mistakes which will be regretted forever. All we would need is an online store, you could pick it out and order it – boom!
Of course commodities are limiting – standard sizes, standard features, etc. – they do not allow for customization to fit your individual wants, needs, tastes and style. Go to your local Chevrolet or Ford dealer and ask for something like an extended cab pickup with five doors. Good luck, as they laugh you down the street. Or ask Amazon.com to put a purple cover on the book you want to buy, or translate it to Latin for you. Starting to get the general idea?
If you don’t care whether your new post frame building kit comes with plans specific to what you are building, don’t want any assembly instructions or assistance from experts if you get stuck, don’t want dimensions and features which best meet your needs, don’t care of the building is designed to meet Building Code requirements or will stay standing in a storm then we are not the right fit for you and we wish you the best of luck.
You will need it.
