A Christmas Message

A Christmas Message

This was just too heart warming to not share.

Mike,

Merry Christmas to you and to all your family and co-workers. THANK YOU for all the wise words (not just about buildings) you publish as the Guru.

Hardly a day goes by that I don’t check your blog after 8 am. even on the days you don’t regularly post, for the latest on post-frame buildings or whatever else you want to say.

Now that I approach my 86th birthday, I don’t have the strength or flexibility to be a DIY’er like I was 5 years ago before learning about post-frame and put a modular on top of a permanent wood foundation basement. I was my own GC and did quite a bit of the electrical and plumbing and Pex-Al-Pex in basement floor hydronic supplied by on-demand Takagi.

Since my teen years I have been thinking about buildings and dreaming about doing one that was more affordable than most. I thought they were mostly realized. (I think I missed my true calling, but the other three careers I did were good, too.)

But then I learned about post-frame and Hansen and my long-time hope to find a way for even more affordable housing and high efficiency was rekindled. My dream is not for plush mansions, but places for struggling young families or retirees with vintage too-large houses and limited resources to move to cost efficient and very livable smaller homes in small towns. Most small towns have plenty of build-able land and reasonable cost.

Today, I am in generally good health I think I could be my own GC for a small town post frame house, but my wife opposes doing it here in LeRoy MN, thinking she would like to move to a warmer place. So, now I dream and you are a constant companion in those dreams.

I might have passed along a ‘post-frame by Hansen’ spark to my grand daughter (BS Mech Eng – WashU – St Louis) and her field geologist (seasonal gold hunter in the far north) husband in Colorado. The are both environmental and Christian stewards so there is a lot about post-frame for them to consider. They are both very pragmatic and DIY minded.

Thank you, BRIAN in LEROY
