Find a Builder

Your Hansen Pole Building is designed for anyone who can follow instructions, making DIY construction simple and potentially saving you thousands of dollars. People of all ages, from seniors to parents with teens, have successfully built their own structures.

With your building, you will get detailed blueprints sized 24" x 36" for permits, a clear step-by-step installation guide, and unlimited expert support. If you prefer not to build it yourself, we have a nationwide Builder Network to help you get labor quotes. Keep in mind that many reliable builders may be booked 12-18 months in advance.

Hansen Pole Buildings has a wide independent Builder Network that covers most of the 48 contiguous states. If you need a builder, you are likely to find one or two nearby. These builders are not employees of Hansen Buildings; the Contractor Finder program is just an informational tool for users of the company’s website.

Below, you will find a list of builders located in your area. If you decide to invest in a building from us, we will unlock the contact information for your convenience, allowing you to directly reach out to these builders. Please note that while we provide this list, Hansen does not guarantee that these builders will be the best fit for your specific building project, as every project may have unique requirements. In the event that there are no builders available in your area, we also offer a “Find a Builder” Program designed to assist you in finding the right professionals for your needs.

Get to know your builder

Deal only with a licensed building contractor

Many states and smaller areas require construction contractors to be registered or licensed. License numbers must be shown on all business cards, proposals, and other contractor materials.

Verify the license

Always verify that the registration is valid. Contact the issuing agency by phone or email to check.

Require Insurance

You need to have a certificate of insurance that shows liability coverage and proof of workers’ compensation insurance for all employees. Some contractors have an industrial insurance account but report their workers as having zero hours, meaning they pay no premiums. This means the workers are not covered. If someone gets injured and is uninsured, you could be held responsible.

Know who you are dealing with

Working with a Contractor known for quality work, ethical practices, and fair pricing is the best choice. Always request references and check them.

Understand what you are getting

Before you agree to any work or make any payments, ask for a written proposal that clearly explains what will be done. It should include a statement about following the relevant Building Codes. If your erector is handling the building permit, this should be written down, and a copy of the permit must be given before the work starts. The total price should cover everything as much as possible. Any unexpected work or unit prices should be clearly explained, such as what to do if digging holes is hard. If the contract is confusing, request a written clarification. Keep all documents, plans, and permits after the job is finished for future reference.

Familiarize yourself with terms

Erector’s proposals and contracts need to have clear terms and conditions. Like any contract, these terms outline what both sides must do, so it’s important to read them closely. Be cautious of contracts that are too brief or unclear. A good contract should cover all scenarios and might be longer than one page. Payment terms can differ, but usually, full payment is expected once all work is done. Avoid paying for the work until Erector has completed the job.

Don't let price or warranty be your only guide

Many building owners believe in getting three bids and choosing the lowest one if they are similar. However, this isn’t always wise, especially when there are big differences in prices. Be very careful with bids that are much lower than the others. This could indicate a mistake or that something important is missing. The contractor might be planning to cut corners on quality, which could lead to problems for you. Also, be cautious of unusually long warranties as a selling point. A warranty of one or two years for labor is reasonable. Remember, a good contract should ensure clear communication between both parties and protect everyone involved. It should never favor just one side. A well-prepared written contract leads to smoother projects.

Require a performance bond

For as little as a few hundred dollars, a legitimate erector can acquire a performance bond (read more here: https://www.hansenpolebuildings.com/2012/07/contractor-bonding/) ensuring the erector will complete job according to contract. If they fail to perform, the performance bond guarantees no money will be lost in bringing in another erector to complete the work.

We encourage you take time to research all pole barn erectors being consided to make sure you know what you are getting. With a great erector working for you it will make your project enjoyable. We wish for every experience of a Hansen Building to be exciting and memorable.
